Water heaters are common fixtures in most modern homes today. They ensure that no matter the outside temperature, hot water will always be available. With advances in technology, there also comes improvements and new technologies added on to this fixture. A great example of this is the tankless electric water heater.

There are two resources involved when using a tankless electric water heater–electricity and water. When the former powers the instant water heater through the unit’s heating element, you get hot water instantly. This also means that as long as you are having a hot shower, there is a constant flow of electricity to power the heating elements. This can be dangerous if the electricity is not properly isolated from the water that is flowing through it. As such, it’s important to take the necessary safety precautions when it comes to using these instant electric water heaters. To help you out, here are 5 electric instant water heater safety tips.

  1. Seek professional assistance for installation

If you’re not already knowledgeable, you should think twice about installing your own tankless electric water heater. It isn’t a job for a novice. Instead hire a professional to do it for you.

This step is crucial because if tankless electric water heater is not installed correctly, it could cause electrical issues. As a result of this, it can affect everything from your shower experience to even increase the consumption of energy and water. At times, it can also lead to the need for costly repairs.

  1. Install the Water Heaters at a Suitable Height

Follow the instruction manual to mount the tankless electric water heater to the wall. Ensure this is in a position that will not be covered up by items in storage, and is easily accessible in case of emergencies. Use the mount and screws included in the package to secure it to the wall, following the steps provided in the instruction manual.

3. Connect the pipes and power

When connecting a tankless electric water heater, make sure to turn off the power and connect a black and red wire to the circuit breaker. Run the cable from the breaker to the heater and connect it to the block terminal on the unit. Every connection must be tight before the panel is closed. A bypassable union connection should be installed on the plumbing line, so you can more easily remove limescale.

4. Perform Routine Checks

Verify all connections are wired correctly and that each wire is in the correct terminal. If everything looks right, reattach the cover with the screws you removed before.

5. Turn the Power on and Test the System

Turn the circuit breaker back on and configure the temperature settings. Don’t select the highest setting as serious burns can result. Check faucets, showers, and other hot water outlets to determine whether the temperature is correct or if any adjustments are needed.
